What is Peer-to-Peer Fundraising?
Peer-to-peer fundraising is a way to delegate fundraising to a large group of people, in this case students, teachers and parents.
By far, the most famous example of peer-to-peer fundraising is the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Participants pledged a donation and challenged others via social media to participate and do the same.
There are many theories about why the challenge was so incredibly successful, but one key factor that everyone agrees on is the aspect of social proof, which is the essence of peer-to-peer fundraising.
When a person is asked by someone they know and trust to make a donation to a cause, they are far more likely to do so than if they are asked in a impersonal way (such as a letter home to parents).
How It Works
Quest of the Keys conducts our fundraising efforts through Classy.org. We provide your school with a team fundraising page and each student with a personal fundraising page. Students then solicit donations via personal appeals to their family and friends.
The cost of the Quest of the Keys curriculum is variable depending on the options your school chooses, but an approximate cost $270 per year per student. This covers the cost of everything a student and teacher need, including teacher training and a live presentation from our staff.
We recommend that each student set a goal of at least $400. Some students will raise more and some a little less. At a $400 goal for each student we anticipate your students easily covering the cost of the curriculum.
With a goal of $400, a student would need to solicit just 16 donations at $25 or 8 donations of $50, goal easily achievable with the right tools and support.
If you’re new to the idea of peer-to-peer fundraising Classy has some fantastic resources. To get started, read this blog post about why peer-to-peer fundraising is so effective and watch their webinar for a walk-through of the fundraising website.
